Quick Healing the W Cosmetic Surgery Way

All of our patients know we really care about you and that we want you to be able to get back to “normal” after your surgery or fillers! So our entire team has come up with our very own W Cosmetic Surgery quick healing protocol to fast track you back to your life/job/family.

It starts before surgery, as we want to prepare your body to be as healthy as it can. Any surgery will have an impact on the body requiring it to work harder and consume more energy to recover. We suggest certain supplements that help boost your body’s ability to bounce back after surgery. These have been demonstrated to play a significant role in wound healing, and, are lacking in many diets.

These include:

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin A
  • Zinc
  • Arnica Montana (oral and/or topical)

We ask you to take these before and after your surgery according to our instructions–they will hasten your recovery.

In addition to the healing supplements, we offer in-office light based therapies that are helpful in the treatment of bruising and redness from surgery and/or fillers.

We now use the Lutronic Healite, which is low level light therapy that promotes circulation and post-procedure wound healing. We ask you to come in for a session before your procedure and for sessions afterwards. Most patients find it quite relaxing. This photo is one of our recent patients.

Another in-office light therapy we use is the Sciton Broadband Light (BBL). It’s a broad range of wavelengths that targets post-laser redness or bruising. For the post surgical redness, the energy targets and eliminates many of the fine vessels that are the cause of the redness.

For bruising, the device targets the pigment in the bruise and can help to breakdown the bruise faster.  In the event we see a bruise starting to develop when a filler procedure is being done, we do BBL on the area immediately and some of our patients say that it never even became discolored at all! It can work that fast! We have also completed a study in our practice of patients who have had intense pulsed light and it significantly reduced the duration of bruising: it is in preparation for publication.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) has been shown to be an aid in healing, because  growth factors secreted by platelets contain elements that cause skin to regenerate. Recently, there has been a lot of excitement regarding this product especially in fat transfer and for hair transplantation, where we are currently using it. Blood is drawn at the time of surgery and treated such that platelets are separated from the other blood elements and either placed on a wound or adjacent. We have used PRP for more than 15 years and find it helpful in select cases.

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) has proved exceedingly useful in many of our patients. It is a treatment offered offsite (and at an added cost), but we have found a way of providing it inexpensively to our patients if they wish to turbo charge their healing. In instances where healing is slower than we like or compromised, we often strongly suggest HBO and have seen amazing results.

We welcome any questions about our quick healing protocol and look forward to putting it to work for you soon.
