Kybella vs ThermiTight: Which Is Right For You?
If you’ve been noticing a little extra fat around your face and chin, you’re not alone. Struggling with a double chin, droopy neck or loose skin is common, but it can certainly affect your appearance and confidence. If you find yourself dreading photos it might be time to evaluate your options.
Two popular procedures offered at W Cosmetic Surgery are Kybella and ThermiTight. Both are used to improve the jawline, yet each offers unique benefits and drawbacks.
“It’s important to have a thorough consultation with a physician you trust,” explains Dr. Wulc. “When a patient comes to us and they’re unhappy with the appearance of their neck and chin, we closely examine a number of factors to determine which procedure will give them the best results. These factors can include age, skin tone, and even lifestyle.”
Kybella is an FDA-approved, non-surgical procedure. A series of injections placed below the chin destroys the fat cells there, making them unable to store or accumulate fat. This contours the appearance of the neck and chin, making it less full and removing the appearance of a double chin. Results are noticeable after two or four sessions, and no more than six sessions are recommended, and results are permanent. These generally occur monthly, and there can be some temporary swelling at the injection site, but you can return to work immediately.
ThermiTight, by contrast, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses targeted heat to tighten wrinkled, sagging skin around the jawline. A small amount of anesthetic is injected, and then a tiny probe is inserted under the skin. Under the careful attention of a surgeon, the probe heats the surrounding skin. The entire process usually takes less than an hour, and normal activity can be resumed the next day. Results are visible instantly and improve over the next six to 12 months and can last up to five years.
Which is right for you?
Kybella can be an excellent choice for patients struggling with persistent fat below the chin, and can yield excellent results. However, it does not tighten the skin while removing fat. The injections are also monthly, which can take time out of your schedule. Kybella is, however, long lasting and non-invasive.
ThermiTight offers excellent skin tightening and toning capabilities, making it the better choice for those dealing with excess skin or signs of aging. However, it does not have the same ability to melt away fat and results can be expected to last for three to five years. It’s a quick procedure with minimal downtime and is an excellent touch-up procedure for those who have previously had a facelift.
“We offer both procedures and they are administered by a board certified cosmetic surgeon and a highly trained nurse injector. The real difference is what we’re trying to correct and the results you’re looking for,” says Dr. Wulc. “I encourage anyone who is considering either Kybella or ThermiTight to come in for an evaluation, where they can learn more about the procedures and we can really discuss their goals.”
